Vietnam Innovation Day 2009 (VID)

I was very excited today to learn of a World Bank program that fosters innovative ideas and rewards innovators and entrepreneurs in Vietnam. What’s even better is that this program specifically targets key development challenges in Vietnam such as health and safety.

VID is an annual event where local innovators can compete and share ideas around a chosen development topic. Topics from previous years include “Disadvantaged Children and Youth,” “Environmental Actions,” and “Innovations for a Safer Life.” This year’s topic is “More accountability and transparency, less corruption.” Ten project proposals this year will receive up to $15,000 to implement their ideas.

VID is gaining support across the globe. It began in 2003 as a World Bank initiative designed to provide start-up funds for innovative ideas addressing Vietnam’s development challenges. It is now co-sponsored by seven other international organizations such as the Australian Overseas Aid Program.

You can learn more about this event by visiting the World Bank’s website.
