Friday: Death tolls rise in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos

- Vietnam: 99 dead, 14 missing

- Cambodia: 17 dead

- Laos: 16 dead, 135 missing

Residents in Vietnam are beginning clean-up efforts as flood waters recede in one of the country’s worst disaster in recent years.  Villagers in Hue city began hanging wet clothes on fences and trees while moving furniture outside to air dry or cleaning muddy floors left behind by the storm.

The hardest hit area was the fishing province of Quang Ngai where Ketsana made landfall on Tuesday with winds reaching 92mph.  Death toll in Quang Ngai summed up to 27.

Officials are aiding evacuees back to their homes in the province.  The clean-up process will require much effort to clear polluted communities.  Estimated damages are in the upwards of 120 million dollars to Vietnam. Over 170,000 homes were affected while 6,300 were destroyed.  Thousands of farm animals were killed and over 20,000 acres of farmland ravaged, leaving the local economy devastated as Vietnam is the second biggest exporter of rice worldwide.
