We love Yahoo here at OneVietnam Network, and Flickr is one of our favorite products. That’s why we were excited to see them featured Vietnamese on their front page. But we noticed something wasn’t right; can you spot it?
The accent mark above the “a” is facing the wrong way. So, instead of saying “hello,” it actually says “porridge please!” Yes, one accent changes the word completely. We pinged the head of product at Flickr (Markus Spiering in the picture, ironically).
On a related note, it’s great to see Vietnamese in the main stream. Vietnamese is the 8th most spoken language in the United States. In California, Vietnamese just 5th behind English, Spanish, Chinese and Tagalog.
We’ll keep an eye on the Flickr homepage to see if things are fixed soon.
Update: Looks like our friends at Flickr heard our whining! The world is right again at OneVietnam.
