East Asian Summit in Ha Noi
2010 saw Vietnam try its diplomatic voice. And, as the US, Japan, Russian and other nations increase efforts to strengthen ties with Vietnam, it’s apparent that Vietnam’s voice is being heard. Luke Hunt at The Diplomat and Philip Bowring from The International Herald Times can tell you about it better than I can. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of foreign affairs role Vietnam will grow into in the near future, and to see how Vietnam might have to change, or stay the same, consequently.

So those were three of many Vietnamese-related events that made my ears perk and pay attention this year. I think I managed to touch on academia, arts, and foreign affairs, right? Before 2010 becomes something of the ol’ days, what were some of your favorite happenings? Were you interested in the campaign to end Agent Orange? Did you stumble upon some kind of Vietnamese dish that prompted you to change gears, veer off your current career path, and enroll in culinary school?
