At the beginning of last month, I wrote a piece on the G.I. Joe Search & Rescue foundation and how the group came about. G.I. Joe is growing strong in membership for a group that formed just four months ago, but, as with any other emerging non-profit, they are in need of funding.
This Saturday, Aug. 20, the foundation will be hosting a benefit concert at the Access Group Media warehouse (11101 Condor Avenue, Fountain Valley, CA 92708). Funds raised from this event will go toward the costs of training G.I. Joe’s search and rescue volunteers, as well as reliable equipment to be used during the group’s rescue and recovery missions.
The event will feature local musicians such as Andrew Figueroa Chiang, Tony T. Nguyen, Peachy Keene, and more, and will be hosted by comedy duo the Fung Brothers. A fashion show will also be taking place, the clothing from which will be auctioned off to help raise funds for the foundation.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event will begin at 7 p.m. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased for $10 each until the day before the event and can be reserved using the Paypal link on the organization’s website, www.gij411.org. Tickets will be placed on will-call, and a driver’s license or state ID is required for admission.
Tickets purchased at the door will be priced at $20. Food, beverages, and merchandise will also be available for purchase on site.
If you’re in the Socal area, come out and support! Word on the street is there will be some special appearances by a few YouTube personalities, and if you’re a fan of the dance crew Poreotics, the team’s Can Nguyen will also be making an appearance.
