“Our stems grow from the roots of coincidence…”
It has been over a year since Yves Schiepek journeyed through Vietnam with his Olympus E-510 camera. The result was a collection of images that is beautiful yet heart breaking, surreal yet candid. In some of the photographs, you get an eerie sense of trapped emotions ready to burst out and drench you with their burden.
These images were too good to be kept private. This year, at the strong urging of his fans, Yves released his first photography book. He teamed up with Teresa Chuc Dowell, a teacher and poet that was born in Vietnam. Teresa was a refugee after the war and found her way to the US in 1978. Yves and Teresa met on OneVietnam Network.
The result was a marriage of images and poetry. The images from a foreigner seeing Vietnam for the first time and the words from a daughter of the country she yearns to know again.
Below I’ve included some of Yves and Teresa’s favorite images. They would also like our readers to know that all proceeds will go towards Agent Orange Victims through the East Meets West Foundation.
