Vietnam Ranks 45th in WEF’s Financial Development Index

Vietnam ranks 45th in the 2009 Financial Development Index published by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Vietnam receives a score of 3.0 in 2009 compare to 3.3 in 2008 out of a maximum of 7.0. Other Southeast Asian countries in the index include Singapore (4th), Malaysia (22nd), and Thailand (35th). Vietnam’s Own Financial Crisis Averted

The chart to the left shows how many Vietnam dong can be purchased with 1 USD.  Since Vietnam's currency exchange is fixed, the black market exchange rate is a better indicator.  In 2008, Vietnam's inflation was out of control and the dong was worth less, much less.
