The body that was discovered Saturday morning in Niles Canyon has been confirmed to be that of missing nursing student Michelle Le. A search party, the eighth one organized since she went missing in May, located her remains, which were decomposed beyond identification. It wasn’t clear at the time whether the body belonged to a man or a woman.
Le was found in a remote area near Hayward by Carrie McGonigle, mother of 14-year-old murder victim Amber Dubois and founder of Team Amber Rescue. McGonigle was led to the remains by her white Labrador retriever, also named Amber. The cause of Le’s death is yet to be determined.
Earlier this month, former high school friend Giselle Esteban was charged with Le’s murder. Surveillance confirmed Esteban’s presence in the Kaiser Permanente parking garage at the time of Le’s disappearance, and cell phone records indicate the suspect was with Le in the area where she was eventually found. Le’s DNA was also found on the bottom of one of Esteban’s shoes.
“You just hope when you go through this… when something’s discovered you hope it’s not in an area that you were in because it’s not a good feeling,” said search volunteer John Hayes. “That’s all I can say, it’s not a good feeling.”
On behalf of those at VTP, we are all very saddened by this unfortunate conclusion in the search for Michelle and would like to send our condolences to the Le family in this difficult time.

Michelle was not found by John Hayes. Double check your sources. ABC also reported that, but it is untrue.
