There’s no doubt that the Vietnamese community has made impacts large and small in the United States. It is refreshing to see the effort of our community recognized. On a recent trip to Half Moon Bay in California, I found a small memorial dedicated to fishermen that have fallen at sea. The placard reads:
In Memorial to the Commercial Fisherman Lost at Sea
“Down to the Sea in ships they go, These chosen men of steel. Though mist and foam and Northwest wind is founding at their keel. So sail they must each crispy morn, away from trees and sod. The sea may own their windburned flesh but their souls belong to God.”

It is a touching remembrance of the Vietnamese Americans who found their role in American society and fishermen. The memorial is a testimony of the resilience of the Vietnamese people and our contribution to community. Pictures below:
