A couple of months ago, Vietnamese American filmmaker Mark Tran graced OneVietnam with his presence at Toast of the Town: Film Edition to present All About Dad, his debut feature. Now, that same movie is available for free viewing here as part of DramaFever’s digital film festival.
All About Dad is a narrative familiar to many young Vietnamese Americans. It tells the story of a stalwart Vietnamese family patriarch ossified in his conservative ways and the son who tries to break away from the medical mold he was raised in to become a filmmaker. It’s loosely based on Mark’s own experience, and is sure to resonate with a number of people out there. Take this opportunity to see a mirror of your personal experiences finally represented on screen and to support an emerging Vietnamese American director.
If you’re in the mood for more culturally relevant films after you’ve viewed Mark’s film, the critically acclaimed Owl and Sparrow by fellow Vietnamese American Stephane Gauger is also up for viewing.
