Have you noticed the copious amounts of Asian-Americans getting record deals and spitting out hot Top 40 tunes? Yeah, me neither.
It seems like the music industry is not quite ready to sport an Asian-American face as the next Madonna or Justin Timberlake. Outside of Don Ho, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park, and apl.de.ap from Black Eyed Peas, I can’t really think of many other Asians who have made it big. You often hear about talented Asians who would’ve been signed if they weren’t so, well, Asian. I’ve also seen the mixed-race Asians who have become popular as one hit wonders.
But Asian everywhere! If you have a singing voice, have no fear! You no longer need fancy equipment or expensive records to get your song heard. Thanks to the phenomenon that is YouTube, there are a lot more Asian-Americans putting face and voice together and showing the world that we have talent too. Artists like Cathy Nguyen and AJ Rafael have become ridiculously popular on this video posting space.
Take a look at my few favorites! Combined, these artists have over four million hits on YouTube!
Not to mention my very good friends and wonderful performers Christine Robles & Dyanne Cho!
So, if you want to share your voice to the world, seems like our friend YouTube can really help. Do you sing and post to YouTube? Post your link here and share with VTP readers! Also, Read more about Asian-Americans on YouTube here!
