This past Sunday marked the one year anniversary of my friend Joe Le’s passing. I have written quite a bit on Joe over the last year, so if you aren’t already familiar with his story, those posts can be read here.
The one year of his passing also marks the anniversary of G.I. Joe Search & Rescue – The Joe Le Foundation’s inception. To commemorate this, the group will be hosting a social & “FUNraiser” at The Pint House (136 W Wilshire Ave, Fullerton, CA 92832). The event is 21 and over and will be taking place this Saturday, April 7, from 4:30PM – 7PM. More details here.
Not only does G.I. Joe assist during search and rescue missions in the U.S., but recently, the group also raised money for rice, milk, and other supplies for foster homes and hospitals in Vietnam. A fraction of the proceeds from this Saturday’s event will be donated back to G.I. Joe, so aside from supporting the search and rescue group, attendees will also be a part of a greater cause.
Lastly, the following video brings me to tears every time. When she heard about Joe’s passing, Dia Frampton (of the band Meg & Dia and NBC’s “The Voice”) paired up with Carlo Gimenez to dedicate a cover of The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” to him.
I hope you’ll find this video as touching as I did.
