His name is Thay Chau.
As you enter his home in Trang Bom, Dong Nai, there are the furniture essentials, off-colored walls, the hammock the perfect length between the bookcase and his desk, a guitar on the wall.
Anywhere else, the use of Kenny G is reserved for an SNL skit. Here, you realize Kenny G was onto something more quiet than intended.
His wife, Co Lien, is giving their baby boy his nightly bath, water gets in his eyes. He’s happy. He doesn’t know why, and he knows why. There are no words for moments like these. His mother wraps him in a towel, for a blink, you swear you see someone else in him.
Thay Chau cares for 30 terminally ill children and seniors at his Phan Sinh shelter. One wails like a siren calling for something, another’s mother is deceased. The children he cares for cannot stand on their own, so he stands up for them.
